Description
Certificate IV in Fitness provides the skills and knowledge for you to be competent in a range of activities and functions within the Fitness industry, including working independently in a broad range of settings, such as within fitness centres, gyms, pools, community facilities and in open spaces.
Core subjects include -
- Establish legal and risk management requirements of small business
- Market the small business
- Undertake small business planning
- Work collaboratively with medical and allied health professionals
- Apply motivational psychology to provide guidance on exercise behaviour and change to meet health and fitness goals
- Undertake long term exercise programming
- Undertake appraisals of functional movement
- Apply exercise science principles to planning exercise
- Plan and deliver exercise programs to support desired body composition outcomes
- Plan and deliver personal training
Start your career as a professional sports trainer
This course trains students with the qualities and skills considered important by employers and these are embedded within the content of each unit.
Employability skills covered include -
- Communication - Negotiating with clients, interpreting specific requirements, selling personal training services developing and maintaining documentation
- Teamwork - Motivating and leading diverse groups of people, providing support and coaching

To achieve a Certificate IV in Fitness, 15 units must be completed -
- All ten core units
- Five Assigned elective units
The nominated units will be organised into an off-the-job training programme, designed to provide students with the practical skills, knowledge and understanding applicable to the units selected. It will also develop the transferable generic employability skills which form an important part of effective and successful participation in the workplace.
Study classes will run every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 6-8pm
Course Outcomes
At the completion of Certificate IV in Fitness, students are qualified to become a sports trainer and train individual clients, on a one-on-one basis, and may include older clients and children.
Students with this level of competency will have the ability to plan, conduct and evaluate exercise training, provide leadership and guidance to clients and other staff and possibly deal with unpredictable situations.
