If you've decided your career lies in sport and health and that you want to teach, this is the degree for you. If you've decided your career lies in sport and health but aren't sure if you want to teach, this is still the degree for you. Here's the advantage: you'll have greater career choice within the health and sport industries without being committed to a single career.
The degree, recently endorsed by the NSW Department of Education, is designed to prepare students to work at an advanced level within the movement and health industries. The degree covers the theoretical issues underpinning movement and health and how to apply such knowledge in dealing with practical issues and contexts in each field. What's more, this degree is designed to meet the discipline requirements for secondary school teaching in physical and health education.
The degree takes a socio-cultural approach to health and movement.
This approach allows health to be explored through the diverse perspectives of history, science, culture, economics and politics. Movement is treated in terms of composition, performance, analysis and life-long adherence.
The Bachelor of Health and Movement (Sport) degree can be completed with three years of full-time study. A maximum of eight years is allowed for students to complete the degree part-time. The degree program is divided into six semesters, each of 12 weeks teaching duration. Study involves approximately 16 contact hours a week excluding examination and study weeks.
Is this the degree for me?
This degree caters for those students who are interested in a career in the sport, health or physical activity fields. Graduates gain flexibility in terms of career choice within those industries rather than being committed to a single career, as would occur with a four-year teaching degree. This feature makes the degree ideal for those who wish to teach or those who are less sure of their ultimate career path and want to maximise their options upon graduation.
Career Opportunities
