Overview
At a glance
Fundamentally, the College is an organisation dedicated to the development and education of people both as teachers of others and leaders in the area of sports studies, dance education and physical and health education. It is committed to strive for superiority in all its endeavours, and it values excellence and integrity. To meet this goal, studying at ACPE should be viewed from three perspectives: the principles underpinning degrees; resources to support student learning; and, student services.
Principles Underpinning Degrees
![]() |
There are four principles that underpin degrees at ACPE. These are:
1. Critical and Reflective Thinking
Programs are designed to encourage students in critical and reflective thinking and responses. Within the academic disciplines, an emphasis is placed on helping students to obtain a thorough grasp of the essential foundational knowledge, skills and critical attitudes pertaining to the discipline.
2. Academic and Professional Competence
Through the content, sequence, presentation and assessment of its programs, ACPE ensures that graduates will be equipped with essential theory and practice skills to be professionally competent and beyond this, to be a contributing member of society.
3. Optimal Autonomy and Responsibility
Programs are structured to facilitate the development of increasing levels of autonomy and responsibility. First year subjects are more structured while those later in the program provide greater opportunity for self-initiated study and research. Students are encouraged to be independent thinkers, initiators and implementers. It is intended that this approach will provide the foundation and motivation for lifelong learning and continuous development.
4. Concern for Individuality
The relatively small size of the College permits it to give individual attention to its students. This concern for individuals and their welfare encourages students to adopt similar caring values that promote good citizenship.
Resources to Support Student Learning
To support student study at ACPE, the College provides a range of text based and e-learning resources. The Library has a collection of more than 21,000 monographic items, including print, electronic and audiovisual resources, print and electronic journal titles and a range of electronic databases. Access to the Librarys eResources is available on campus as well as remotely via the Librarys website. Additionally, library staff provides reader assistance at service desks and offer a comprehensive information literacy training program throughout each semester.
With respect to computer facilities, the College has three laboratories. The laboratories are available to students and staff for coursework, word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentation development, file transfer, web browsing, and basic digital picture editing.
