About Sydney

Sydney, founded in 1788 as a penal settlement, is Australias oldest city. It is the capital of New South Wales with a population approaching five million.

Sydney has experienced phenomenal growth with extensive urban development creating a greater metropolitan area of approximately 1,735 sq km. Sydney has become recognised as a city of the world through its hosting of the 2000 Olympic Games. Sydneys average temperature in summer is 21.7 °C , autumn is 18.1 °C , winter 12.6 °C and spring is 17.4 °C.

Sydney hosts some of the most spectacular sites Australia has to offer. The city itself is built around one of the most beautiful harbours in the world and extends from fantastic beaches in the east to the Blue Mountains in the west. National parks of world significance border the city to the north and south.

Sydney is without doubt one of the most exciting cities in Australia. With a wide variety of cafés, clubs, restaurants and entertainment venues, Sydney truly is a city full of life.
The city has an extensive transport network  throughout the Central Business District and surrounding suburbs allowing easy access to the harbour, beaches, museums, cinemas and theatres.
