About the course

The Associate Degree of Applied Fitness is awarded after successfully undertaking the first two years (when studying full time) of the Bachelor of Applied Fitness.

Classes are taught by experts who are highly experienced in their fields and who bring their own practical experience to help provide context to practical subjects. To balance the theory portion and enhance the learning experience, students attend practical classes. This will provide further opportunities for mastery of subject material and assist with development of practical application of the theory in each subject.

Course structure

The full time course structure for the Associate Degree of Applied Fitness.

The Associate Degree of Applied Fitness can be completed in two years of full-time study. The degree program is divided into four semesters.

Semester 1

  • Understanding Health
  • Foundation of Human Biology for Fitness
  • Fitness Principles and Programming
  • Introduction to Responsible Fitness Management

Semester 2

  • Introduction to Performance and Exercise Psychology
  • Musculoskeletal Anatomy & Physiology
  • Exercise Prescription Throughout the Lifespan
  • Small Business Management - Principles for the Fitness Industry

Optional additional study for a Certificate III in Fitness (SIS30315): Approximately 30 hours of online study and a 2 day practical session with FIAFitnation.

Semester 3

  • Health & Activity for Diverse Populations
  • Applied Exercise Physiology
  • Strength & Conditioning
  • Introduction to Understanding Sport and Fitness Research

Semester 4

  • Principles of Health Promotion
  • Biomechanics
  • Exercise & Social Development Through the Lifespan
  • IT in Fitness

Optional additional study for a Certificate IV in Fitness (SIS40215): Approximately 20 hours of online study and a 2 day practical session with FIAFitnation.
