Combining industry focused lectures with specialist practical training, students of all ages can receive a realistic snapshot into the dynamic health science industry. 

This course embeds a hands-on approach where you will gain specialist vocational training to prepare you to work in coaching and instruction of sports at the community level. It is also relevant to sport trainers and other professionals who want to develop a certain set of skills to inform individuals or groups with specific health needs and conditions how to apply current physical and psychological theory to the world of sports.

Description

The study of sports science involves applying scientific principles to sports, exercise, and the ability of the body to perform physically. This degree has been developed to recognise the increasing evidence that sport and physical activity play an important role in health and wellbeing. 

This degree can lead to many different educational and career opportunities. You will gain a substantial understanding of human movement and sport, and be introduced to health promotion principles to improve wellbeing through sport. You will learn about the science behind applied movement in the areas of human anatomy, skill acquisition, biomechanics and physiology.

The Bachelor of Health Science (Sport) is divided into three major study areas -

  • The Determinants of Health (Core) Stream introduces students to health promotion principles and provides an understanding of the social, psychological and cultural factors influencing general health and wellbeing.
  • The Bioscience (Core) Stream provides a background in the structure and function of the human body and explores the concepts of exercise physiology.
  • The Sport (Major) Stream provides an understanding on how and why the human body moves and the factors that limit, and or enhance, the ability to move in sport.
